It is important to us the WANE library is generative and our commissions programme aims to support women and non-binary creatives to make new work. Commissions often respond to artistic legacies connected to the North East of England or in relation to archival practice and library work.

We’re delighted to announce artist Kate Sweeney has been commissioned to develop a new text work in response to the WANE library’s collection and archive practices.
July 2022: We seek to commission an artist or writer to develop new text work that responds to the library collection, histories of women artists in the North East and archive practice.
2021-2023: The Library and MIMA co-commission an artist to respond to histories of women making art in the Tees Valley.
Summer 2021: The Library commissions illustrator and designer Sally Pilkington to design a new donation card for the library.
2021: Announcing two new commissions, a Design Commission from the library and a co-commission with MIMA.
