The Women Artists of the North East Library will be resident at Northumbria University from January – April 2022 to research the legacies of women artists and filmmakers connected to the university, and their influence on local artist filmmaking practitioners.
Supported by Northumbria’s Fine Art Department and Film and Television Production Department, Library director Holly Argent will be researching Tamara Krikorian (1944-2009) video artist, writer and visiting lecturer at Newcastle Polytechnic, looking at Krikorian’s influence on artists and filmmakers in the North East using video in various ways, from the first use of TV and Video in installation work as well as the new production of film and video for broadcast on single screen. Public events and open library days will take place at Northumbria University where you are invited to join us in helping to rethink Krikorian’s legacy.
This residency is has been funded by an 18 month Arts Council Project Grant supporting development of the library and growth of our collection and networks and a a programme of Open Library events and commissions in response to the Library and local histories.
