Open Library: Jade Sweeting’s Hell Cats at MAW 2021

For Middlesbrough Art Weekender 2021, artist Jade Sweeting presents new work and activity from her ongoing project Hell Cats, inspired by, and dedicated to every woman who rides a motorcycle, gets their hands dirty and who wants to be free. 

"To be free to do what they want to do, to be free to ride their machines, without getting hassled by The Man."

Living and working in Newcastle upon Tyne, Jade Sweeting is originally from Middlesbrough but completed her BA Hons at Northumbria University before becoming the Graduate Fellow, specialising in print. She set up her own press ‘The Pulled Print Club’, a DIY Screen print studio that promoted affordable workshops and editioning services, delivered with a punk ethos. Sweeting’s own work in cooperates recycling found imagery using analogue techniques from printmaking to photography and is influenced by, sub-cultures, feminist theory and archiving. Jade has previously shown work from Hell Cats at Baltic 39 (Newcastle, 2019) and One Paved Court (London, 2020).
